We designed the pavilion for Yayoi Kusama at Inhotim to house two of the artist’s installations while addressing the collective act of waiting that precedes the experience. A lightweight, tensioned shading structure spans the site, formed by parallel cables that reconstruct the original topography of the land. The canopy supports a metal mesh planted with Congea tomentosa, providing shade, filtering light and rain, and introducing a temporal dimension through the plant’s changing seasonal colors. Beneath it, a gently sloping landscape guides visitors toward the pavilion, conceived as a concrete plane embedded between the surrounding slopes. Paths, seating areas, and open views connect garden and forest, framing the project as a topographical intervention rather than a freestanding object.
