Mark Mueckenheim

Mark Mückenheim is a German architect, author, educator, and a principal of PMCKM, co-founded with Maria Paz de Moura Castro. His work engages architecture as a cultural practice, developed across projects in Europe, the United States, and Brazil.

His work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Venice Architecture Biennale, the German Architecture Center in Berlin, and the House of Architecture in Lille. It has been widely published across international platforms, including Actar, Taschen, DOM Publishers, Frame, Detail, L’Arca, AMC / Le Moniteur Architecture, Beaux Arts Magazine, as well as Designboom, Dezeen, ArchDaily, and Divisare. He is the co-author of the book Inspiration – Contemporary Design Methods in Architecture (BIS Publishers, Amsterdam / PageOne, Singapore).

He has lectured and taught internationally at numerous institutions. Among others, he has held academic positions at RWTH Aachen (2002-2008) and the Technical University of Munich, where he served as visiting professor and department chair from 2009 to 2012. From 2013 to 2025 he was the Graduate Director of the school of Architecture at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Since 2026, he is professor at the Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt in Germany.

Educated in Germany, the United States, and the United Kingdom as a Fulbright Scholar and DAAD Fellow, he received his Master of Architecture from Parsons School of Design, New York, and his Graduate Diploma at the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London. 

In 2001, he founded his practice MCKNHM. In 2017, he began collaborating with Maria Paz de Moura Castro King and her office, RIZOMA. In 2020, they formed their joint office PMCKM Paz de Moura Castro King Mueckenheim, maintaining architectural licenses in the United States, Brazil, and the European Union, with projects currently under construction in the United States and Brazil.

 

Maria Paz De Moura Castro

Maria Paz de Moura Castro is a Brazilian architect, curator, and educator and a principal of PMCKM, co-founded with Mark Mückenheim. Her work engages the relationship between architecture and art, developed across cultural, institutional, and residential projects in Brazil, the United States, and Europe.

Her work includes the design of multiple pavilions at Inhotim, developed in collaboration with artists including Anish Kapoor, Yayoi Kusama, Lygia Pape, Ernesto Neto, and Tunga. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Venice Architecture Biennale, the Deutsches Architekturmuseum, and the Carnegie Museum of Art, and published in Financial Times Magazine, Wallpaper, Casabella, L’Architecture d’Aujourd’hui, Azul, AU, Vogue Brazil, as well as Designboom and ArchDaily.

She is Adjunct Faculty at the University of California, Berkeley, and has taught at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. She has served as a guest critic at Cornell University, Columbia University, Yale School of Architecture, and Universidade FUMEC, and has worked with the curatorial team at the Storefront for Art and Architecture in New York. Since 2013, she has been a member of the Architecture Council at Inhotim.

She received her Bachelor of Architecture and Urbanism from FUMEC University in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and her Master of Architecture from Cornell University in the United States. In 2008, she founded Rizoma Arquitetura. In 2017, she began collaborating with Mark Mückenheim and his office, MCKNHM. In 2020, they formed their joint office PMCKM Paz de Moura Castro King Mueckenheim, maintaining architectural licenses in the United States, Brazil, and the European Union, with projects currently under construction in the United States and Brazil.
